Buttermilk Snickerdoodles (Muffins)

1/2 c Shortening
1 c Sugar
2 Eggs; well beaten
2 1/2 c Flour; sifted
1 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Baking soda
1/2 ts Salt
1 ts Cinnamon
1/2 ts Allspice
1/2 ts Cloves
3/4 c Buttermilk
1/3 c Seeded raisins
1/3 c Dried currants
1/2 c Nuts; chopped

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Mix and sift dry ingredients, and add alternately with buttermilk. Stir in fruits and nuts. Pour into greased and floured 2 1/2-inch muffin pans, filling 2/3 full. Bake in preheated 375 degrees oven for about 25 minutes.
