Cranberry Maple Muffins

1 c Cranberries; chopped
2 1/2 c Flour
1 ts Salt
6 tb Margarine; softened
1 Egg
1/3 c Sugar
1 tb Baking powder
1/4 ts Allspice, ground
1/2 c Maple syrup
1/2 c Milk

Bring milk to room temperature. Preheat oven to 400 F. In a bowl, combine cranberries and sugar. Set aside four one hour at room temper- ature, stirring occasionally. Sift together the dry ingredients and the spices. In another bowl, beat together the butter, syrup, egg, and milk until smooth. Add the cranberry mixture. Quickly fold in the dry ingredients, until just moistened. Spoon into greased 2" muffin pans. Bake 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from pans and serve warm.
