Bran Muffins

1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. solid shortening (1/4 lb.)
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. unsifted flour
2 1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. buttermilk
1 c. boiling water
1 c. Kellogg's All Bran
2 c. Kellogg's 40% Bran Flakes
3/4 c. raisins, if desired


Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time. Add flour, soda, salt and buttermilk. Mix until smooth. Meanwhile, pour boiling water over bran flakes. It will cool while absorbing. Blend the latter into the batter. Add raisins and All Bran. Dip batter without stirring into greased muffin tin. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
