Orange Muffins

1/2 c. oleo
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. soda dissolved in 1 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped dates
1 c. chopped nuts
Rind & juice of 2 oranges
2 c. sugar

Cream oleo and sugar. Add eggs, then buttermilk. Next mix in flour, salt, dates and nuts. Bake in small muffin tins at 300 degrees for 12 minutes. Do not brown. Dip in orange mixture, which is prepared by grating the rind of 2 oranges. Mix it and the juice with the 2 cups sugar, a little at a time so as not to lump.
